Tessa White

Founder, Down that Little Lane

The English-born Tessa White has always had an appreciation for beautiful things. A model since the age of 16, Tessa’s career saw her work all around Europe and Japan before landing in Australia in 1999. Inspired to live a healthy lifestyle, the model studied a Diploma of Sports Therapies and began working as a personal trainer.

It was in 2005 that Tessa started another business selling items sourced from houses undergoing refits on e-bay, for a commission. Gaining crucial knowledge around exemplary customer service skills, Tessa continued this business while she went through the pregnancies and births of her two children, Kitty and Harrington.

With two young kids, Tessa was loving that she could work from her home in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, while also fueling her passion for sourcing delightful gifts, homewares and unique products, And so began long discussions with her husband Marcus around her dream endeavour, Down That Little Lane (DTLL). Tessa spent the next year researching, getting scared, researching, getting quotes and researching again before she launched the website in November 2011.
Today Tessa employs a team of 11 staff, including other mums who, like herself, appreciate a job that allows them to work around their young family’s schedules. She strives to see growth and refinement in DTLL and encourages her creative team to think outside the box, searching for ways to ensure the web¬site is a joy to experience and be a part of.
A working mum and wife who really is balancing it all, Tessa finds little time between DTLL, model¬ing, the kids and her fitness regime. Her obsession with interior design will see her spend her rare spare minutes, restyling the rooms in her house, cleaning and then restyling the rooms again. The talented en-trepreneur’s office is 100% HER space filled with a colourful collection of beautiful products from DTLL and she revels in hanging out in there with her dog Obi. Like all working mums, particularly those with their own businesses, Tessa finds very little time for herself, but will schedule random free hours in her calendar so she can say yes to a coffee if someone wants her.

“Down That Little Lane is only 15 months old and is still much like a newborn, except one that never sleeps. But it’s my newborn and I am happy to spend all my waking hours with it close by,” says Tessa.
Tessa’s passion for interiors, homewares and beautiful creations is evident in her appreciation for the brands she works with and her motivation to see them also succeed. Her satisfaction comes from finding unique creators and seeing DTLL generate their first sales.
“I love unique handmade and crafted pieces. Whether vintage, up cycled or modern, I love it all and am so delighted to share the best creations from some of the finest makers internationally with everyone through Down That Little Lane.”
